Carmen Adams is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of experience working with individuals, children, adolescents, families and couples. Carmen has always been interested in human development over the life span. Diagnosable disorders, mental illness, life transitions, stress, trauma, difficult situations or experiences can interrupt life in a negative way. The therapeutic relationship can foster hope and healing toward a more meaningful and healthier life experience.
Carmen’s career includes a Residential Treatment Center for Wards of the State, Child Welfare, Juvenile Court, Family Reunification Services, Latino Parenting Support, Linden Oaks Hospital, and several Psychiatric Private Practices. Her approach is supportive and collaborative while utilizing a creative combination of Client Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and/or Psychodynamic Therapy. When working with children, Carmen will incorporate Play Therapy and Narrative Therapy into treatment. Systems theory, improving effective communication skills and building strengths are used when working with couples and families. Individuals of all backgrounds are respected and welcome. Carmen can provide Christian Counseling for those who are interested in an approach that incorporates the teachings of the bible into a more traditional counseling framework. Carmen also grew up in a bilingual home and is able to provide Spanish speaking counseling services upon request.
Carmen holds a Masters’ Degree in Social Work from Jane Addams College of Social Work at the University of Illinois, Chicago. An emphasis on Children and Families was studied. Additionally, Carmen has a Bachelors’ in Science from Northern Illinois University with a Child and Family Concentration. She’s a wife and mother of 2 teenage daughters and a son in middle school. Family time is cherished while exploring the great outdoors, visiting with family and friends, planning road trips, cultural experiences, cooking and gardening. She enjoys volunteering, reading, cooking shows, and time with girlfriends.
